Gas lights |
The one thing we need when camping is??? Yes light! We road tested these gas lights and found them to be both practical and very easy to set up and most important they give off heaps of light. The lights usually come in three sizes as pictured and plug straight into the gas bottle and also can be tall or if using in a tent (not recommended) can sit directly on the gas bottle minus the long stand. The one downside to these lights is that they are very very fragile and as you know in the camping business there is no room for the weak so be very careful when packing these lights and make sure when you fill the car up with all your gear pack these last! At prices ranging between $15- $30 they are a great compact idea and will not leave you in the dark ! | ![]() |
Toast , Toast, Toast,
If you like to cook up to four slices of toast at once, you'll need one of these. A compact fold flat toaster that grills four slices of toast over any type of camping cooker. Travelbugz took this little toaster for a three day stint at Waratah bay on the Victorian coast and it was an absolute winner! Gone are the days of standing over a camp fire with tears streaming down your eyes from the smoke everytime the wind changes , with this little ripper you can do one of two things 1. Pop the bread on all four sides and place the whole toaster on the hot coals ( not flames) as this will burn the toast or 2. What we did was to place the toaster over a single gas element and it cooked the bread golden brown with a lovely crunch! There is no doubt that this can be used anywhere and taken anywhere as it folds up completely flat and takes seconds to set up.

![]() | Air mattress road test!
Now i must admit when it comes to comfort out there under the stars nothing really comes close to an air mattress! Gone are the days of lying in your tent with twelve pairs of socks on and four jumpers while being wrapped and zipped up in your sleeping bag. Yes that’s right trendsetters the air mattress is easy to set up and most important keeps you off the ground. We road tested this little marvel of an invention down by the coast and I must say it did keep us warm BUT ! I must stress that doesn’t matter how thick the mattress is as a must you should lay something between the ground (in your tent) and the mattress as the cool ground at night cools the air in the mattress leaving you waking up feeling somewhat cold? Also get a sturdy mattress and make sure its full to the brim with air as having two people on one mattress can give you the feeling of being out to sea in 50ft waves if the other person tends to roll around a bit( nothing a quick elbow in the ribs wont fix). These little bewdy’s come in all shapes and sizes for different needs and also come in different materials. Travelbugz recommends a mattress that is self inflating and has a canvas bottom (for the damp) and also the flatter the mattress the better (50ft seas remember)….

Mosquito-Clicker
Well you can shelve the metho and put away that old snake oil because there is a new kid on the block that’s not messy and actually works! Yes that’s right folks our egg head friends have discovered Piezoelectricity ! Chemically free this little bewdy which is the size of a cigarette lighter works by sending electric currents around the affected area through compression or expansion of quartz and similar crystalline substances and doesn’t even require a battery. Travelbugz picked up one of these little rippers while in Cairns for around twenty bucks and have never looked back as its small easy to use and never runs out. I have added a diagram below as the mozzie clicker just doesn’t stop the sting of mozzies it has other uses as well for the beautiful creatures here in

Caribee Kestral Tent Road Test
Arrrhhhh the old 4 man tent that sleeps two? I don’t mean that in a negative way at all in regards to this tent but seriously when you can sleep four men comfortably in a four man tent then ill take back everything i have said about the tent sizes and how they are marketed! Now back to the topic, The Caribee Kestral is a great and easy tent to set up with no fuss instructions on the bag it comes in, in fact I think when travelbugz road tested this tent we looked at the instructions twice ( just to be sure) and before you knew it half a beer later she was up! The tent is like most standard tents these days with the old pull, bend, and pop poles so that’s was easy apart from a bit of tricky threading which kept getting stuck half way through but we persisted and whalla! The tent was ready apart from the outer cover which was a bit hard to navigate between what was a door to what was a window to which end is front etc (you get the picture). Two of us slept in this tent very comfortably on a double blow up mattress and we had room for our bags as well as the other normal bits and pieces that seem to gather in a tent you know torch, socks, one shoe. The one thing in particular I liked was the many loops that allowed you to hang a lantern from or anything else that needs to be off the floor which came in very handy.
I recommend this tent for two people if you want to be comfortable or four people if you want to be really really cozy!

Waeco Coolers !
Whether on the road, on a picnic or at home on the terrace, WAECO Cooler provide you with cool snacks and drinks. They deliver outstanding and energy saving cooling performance due to their highly effective insulation and intelligent technology. At the touch of a button, the coolers can be turned into warmer boxes. The WAECO Cooler generation has arrived to redefine the convenience standards of mobile refrigeration.
We used this little baby in the car for a weekend in the country and although the drinks were'nt icy cold they were kept cool for the drive and for the duration of the weekend which surprised me! The best way to kick start these little marvels is to pop an ice block in them when first turning on as that will cool the inside down alot quicker and will keep the block frozen if you wish to keep it in the cooler. Comes with a very long 12volt cord for the cigarette lighter and we found that it reached the back of ou SUV no problem. Waeco have a fantastic range of coolers and freezers which vary great in size and climate so for the ultimate weekend with nice cold drinks then you can't go past a Waeco !
